POSITION SUMMARY
This role is the strategic thought partner to the Head of Immunology Division and the Immunology Division Council, helping shape the future of China Immunology. The role converts external signals, portfolio opportunities, and complex business questions into clear choices; leads the integrated 3–5-year strategy; advances portfolio, transformation, and selected high-impact strategic priorities; and strengthens China’s influence across Asia Pacific (AP) and Global. As a member of the Immunology Division Council, the job holder reports directly to the Head of Immunology Division and partners closely with the Operations Excellence Lead. The role owns strategy, portfolio, transformation, and special projects, while routine business operations and project management office activities remain with Operations Excellence and the relevant functional owners.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead Division strategy and strategic decision support. Shape the integrated 3–5-year China Immunology strategy and frame the highest-value questions for the Head of Immunology Division and Division Council. Synthesize market, customer, policy, scientific, and competitive insights; build scenarios; pressure-test assumptions; and recommend choices on portfolio, investment, resource allocation, and capabilities.
· Shape the future portfolio, launch strategy, and growth platforms. Partner with in-country, AP, and Global teams—including New Product Planning, Strategic Marketing, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Development, Business Development, Global Access and Medical Affairs, Market Access, Finance, and other enabling functions—to assess pipeline assets, lifecycle opportunities, new indications, emerging modalities, external innovation, and China-specific growth opportunities. Define where to play, China’s value potential, critical success factors, and required capabilities; align launch strategy, priorities, resources, and milestones with core launch teams and senior sponsors.
· Build an outside-in strategic intelligence capability. Proactively scan industry trends, competitor moves, emerging science, healthcare policy, commercial models, digital and AI applications, and organizational best practices across J&J, peer companies, and relevant industries. Translate external signals into implications, strategic questions, and timely actions for the Head of Immunology Division and Division Council.
· Lead high-impact transformation and special projects. Own a focused portfolio of complex, cross-functional priorities sponsored by the Head of Immunology Division that have high strategic value, significant ambiguity, and no natural functional owner. Topics may include future go-to-market models, portfolio and resource evolution, customer engagement, AI-enabled commercial capabilities, ecosystem partnerships, and new capability building. Move initiatives from problem definition and insight generation through recommendation, alignment, pilot, implementation, and value realization, mobilizing the relevant commercial, medical, access, finance, digital, operations, and enabling teams.
· Strengthen China Immunology’s connectivity and influence across AP and Global. Bring China insights, innovation, and strategic perspectives upstream into regional and global decisions; translate relevant AP and Global capabilities into China; and build compelling narratives to secure alignment, resources, investment, and support for China priorities.
· Support business development and external partnerships. Provide commercial and strategic assessments of opportunities that can strengthen Immunology’s leadership and future portfolio in China. Partner with Business Development, Medical Affairs, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, Finance, Legal, and other relevant teams to evaluate strategic fit, value creation, risks, and execution implications.
REQUIREMENTS
· Experience: Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry, management consulting, strategy, commercial, portfolio, or related functions, with a record of leading complex cross-functional work and delivering high-impact outcomes.
· Strategic and analytical leadership: Demonstrated ability to structure ambiguous questions, integrate complex data and perspectives, develop scenarios and options, make sound trade-offs, and translate insights into clear executive decisions and actions.
· China commercial and portfolio expertise: Strong understanding of the China pharmaceutical market, customer dynamics, access and policy environment, competitive landscape, portfolio strategy, and evolving industry trends. Experience in Immunology or specialty care is preferred.
· Relevant functional breadth: Substantial experience in several of the following areas: enterprise or Division strategy, portfolio planning, new product planning, transformation, strategic marketing, business development, or management consulting. Proven ability to combine strategy development with hands-on execution and value realization.
· Outside-in curiosity and learning agility: Actively seeks external benchmarks, emerging science and technologies, competitive signals, and new business models; learns quickly and converts them into implications and opportunities for China Immunology.
· Executive communication and influence: Communicates with clarity and impact in Chinese and English, distills complexity into compelling strategic narratives, and influences senior leaders across China, AP, and Global without relying on formal authority.
· Enterprise collaboration: Builds trust, values diverse perspectives, and mobilizes stakeholders across Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Finance, Business Development, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Digital, Operations Excellence, and regional and global teams toward shared outcomes.
· Bold, patient-centered leadership: Brings ambition and competitive drive in service of patients; demonstrates integrity and sound judgment; challenges conventional thinking constructively; and makes timely decisions despite uncertainty.
· Highly self-motivated with strong ownership: Demonstrates exceptional personal drive, initiative, and accountability; independently identifies and prioritizes the highest-value opportunities; takes end-to-end ownership from problem definition through implementation and results; follows through on commitments; and remains resilient in a complex, fast-moving, and ambiguous environment.
· Continuous improvement and optimization: Simplifies ways of working, uses data, digital tools, and AI appropriately to improve speed and quality, and continuously raises the bar while maintaining ethical, legal, and compliance standards.
