The Role:
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer plays a pivotal role in enhancing Tesla's manufacturing efficiency by mechanical designing and optimizing automation lines in collaboration with equipment suppliers and integrators. This position focuses on production line mechanical design, design review in high quality, ensuring cost-effectiveness in designing and components selection, implementing innovative automation solutions to raise automation level reduce cycle times and labor dependency. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, this role drives significant cost reductions and operational improvements across manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities:
• Design Turnkey Automation systems in 3D CAD models in SolidWorks
• Create BOM list 2D Drawing Documentation packages with GD&T
• Assist in on-site mechanical debug of systems during post FAT &SAT periods
• Utilize SolidWorks to review and improve line designs, CAD models, and simulations to meet cost and efficiency standard
• Standardized 3D component Library, 3D designs Library and Enclosures for full designs of key mechanical automation equipment
• Collaborate with equipment integrators to design and refine assembly lines, tooling, and automation equipment for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness
• Perform thorough reviews of production line assembly mechanical design to automate labor-intensive processes, higher quality design, cost-effective components selection and prevent supplier overcharging
• Assist Automation team with station concept design, RFI &RFQ creation, project should cost calculations.
• Lead the identification and integration of automation solutions to minimize manual labor and boost production efficiency
• Drive cost savings through accurate RFQ assessments, process optimization, cost-effective design solution and elimination of unnecessary expenses
• Spearhead the growth of the Automation Design Team with the Supplier CapEx Team
• Adhere to company policies and procedures, proactively identify and report hazards and incidents, submit safety recommendations, and create a safe working environment through continuous improvement. Practice the safety culture of "Safety First, Everyone's Responsibility" and “See something, Say something, Do something.”
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in the automation industry as a mechanical design engineer
• Extensive experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, and UGNX, including the ability to design fixtures, stations and automation lines
• Proven track record of owning automation assembly line project designs, Mechanical lead design role in automation assembly line project designs
• Strong expertise in manufacturing processes, assembly line design, and cost management
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with equipment integrators and optimize production line tools and systems
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
• Good English reading & verbal communication ability, capable of using English as working language.
