岗位描述

The Design Technical Operations (DTO) Chief at Ford of China is pivotal in overseeing and coordinating the full technical delivery of vehicle styling development. This role acts as the critical bridge between creative design intent, virtual digital development, physical model realization, and mass-production engineering feasibility.

The DTO Chief provides strategic and tactical leadership to a team of technical experts, ensuring the successful execution of design projects aligned with the Design Vision. You will own the overall technical quality, process standardization, project milestone delivery, and cross-functional engineering collaboration for all exterior and interior vehicle programs, successfully maintaining the "art" in production-intent solutions.

Responsibilities

Strategic & Overall Technical Leadership

End-to-End Delivery: Own the end-to-end technical implementation from sketch freeze, digital modeling, and physical model validation to production design sign-off and Appearance Approvals consistent with the Ford Design Quality Operating System.

Vision & Feasibility Balance: Balance design creativity, surface quality, physical model accuracy, and manufacturing feasibility. Define and demonstrate the critical engineering parameters needed to enable the Design Vision.

Future Breakthroughs: Define the future breakthroughs needed to enable design leadership. Identify required technology, engineering, and feasibility to enable theme and vision balance.

Global Alignment: Establish and iterate global technical standards, development workflows, and quality gate criteria. Work closely with external suppliers and JV partners to align operations with company objectives at a global scale.

2. Digital Design & CAS Technical Management

Surface Progression: Oversee full exterior and interior CAS A-class surface development, surface quality review, highlight control, and data accuracy validation.

Digital Workflow: Manage the digital workflow including 3D scanning data processing, virtual review, VR digital mock-up, and rendering visualization.

3. Physical Model & Model Shop Management

Shop Operations: Take full charge of model shop operations, including scale models (1:10 / 1:4) and full-size 1:1 clay model development, machining, finishing, and assembly simulation.

Specification & Delivery: Define model-making specifications, plan Market Research and Design Verification properties, and ensure all model review deliverables meet quality and timeline gates.

4. Design Engineering & Production Feasibility

Engineering Integration: Lead styling engineering feasibility reviews. Collaborate with Body Exterior/Interior, Vehicle Engineering, Stamping, Manufacturing, and Attribute teams to produce balanced solutions.

Compliance & Ergonomics: Conduct ergonomics checks, regulatory compliance verification, exterior protrusion regulations, lighting regulations, and driver vision validation.

Conflict Resolution: Resolve conflicts between creative styling and mass production processes. Co-create with partners to identify what "could be" and "can be," finding win/win solutions for manufacturability without losing the emotion of the Design.

Risk Management: Manage design risk assessment and engineering change control.

5. Project, Team & Innovation Management

Talent Development: Build the technical talent pipeline, mentor/coach team members, and cultivate a positive work environment that promotes respect, diversity, and inclusion.

Advanced Tech Exploration: Track industry advanced digital design tools, AI styling generation, virtual simulation technology, and new model craftsmanship. Provide recommendations for process improvement as part of the global Ford Design infrastructure.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Automotive Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related filed.

Experience: 10+ years of automotive OEM styling technical experience in Design studio procedure, surface, and Theme feasibility development. Must include a minimum of 5 years of people management experience in a professional automotive design centre.

Technical Pipeline Expertise: Solid end-to-end experience managing technical modules simultaneously.

Software/Tools: Proficient in mainstream digital modelling tools. Familiar with 3D scanning, virtual review systems, and PLM data systems.

Engineering Acumen: Deep understanding of automotive stamping, injection moulding, painting, and assembly processes. Familiar with vehicle ergonomics and global automotive safety regulations.

Soft Skills: Open, collaborative communication style. Strong analytical, conceptual, and strategic thinking abilities. Excellent cross-department communication, risk prediction, and problem-solving skills.
